Chic Winter Layers

Many women are afraid to layer their clothes, concerned it will make them look bulky or larger than they actually are. Contrary to popular belief, choosing the right pieces to create a perfectly layered outfit will actually accentuate your shape and give you a more balanced look. Layering also creates a more put together look and a bonus that it actually keeps you warm in the winter.

Here are my 3 Tips for the Perfectly Layered Outfit:

1. It’s All About Balance!

Ensure the under-layers are more fitted to keep your shape looking slim. Lightweight, button-up blouses are the perfect layer tool because you can add a sweater or jacket on top and keep a sleek shape. If you’re wearing tons of layers on top, go for a slimmer silhouette on the bottom to balance everything out. Or if you’re wearing a voluminous skirt pair it with a tailored top to achieve that same balance.

2. Play with Texture, Color and Pattern!

It’s best to incorporate a mix of materials when styling a layered look. By varying textures, colors and patterns you create more visual interest with an outfit. I’ve paired a polka-dot silky blouse with a vibrant cotton sweatshirt, drape front leather jacket and velvet sneakers to ensure my outfit doesn’t come off as heavy or one-dimensional.

3. Varied Lengths Are Key!

Length and proportion are very important when layering. A longer jacket, tunic, or boyfriend blazer looks best when paired with a shorter hem, while a hip length jacket is best with a longer hemline that peaks out below.

Happy layering!
