5 Tips for Wearing Wide Leg Pants

Styling Wide Leg Pants

I love a good pair of wide leg pants, but they can be a tricky one to style. What type of top? Solid or pattern? Do you need to wear heels?

I’m going to break it down into 5 simple tips for styling a pair of wide leg pants. No need to over complicate it, but definitely a few things to keep in mind. [Read more…]

Accessorizing for Fall with a JORD Wood Watch

women's wood watch

Fall is my absolute favorite season for fashion. I do love the typical fall staples such as chunky knits, blanket scarves and booties. However, more than anything I’m obsessed with all of the different textures, including wool, suede, leather, mixed metals and wood. One of the best ways to display all of those lovely fall textures is through accessories. So when JORD (handcrafted, luxury wood watch designers) contacted me to partner up for a fall giveaway, I was so excited! [Read more…]

My Go-To Summer Dress

We just wrapped up our August long weekend here in Canada. My husband and I had a great weekend spent close to home. Saturday evening was homemade pizza night with my bestie and her husband. They just had a beautiful baby girl six days ago! It was so nice to get in some baby snuggles.

The rest of the weekend was very low key, filled with yard work, house work and cooking. In July I joined a local Community Supported Agricultural (CSA) group. Each week we get a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables from local farms. Last week we received fresh dill and beets, so I made a borscht soup on Saturday. We also received Saskatoon berries and I made a crisp with those. It’s been really fun trying new recipes with the freshest ingredients! 🙂 [Read more…]

My Favorite Designer Dupe

In the summer of 2012 I left the corporate world to return to school full time. Going from working girl to student mode was a HUGE change! Over a two year span I studied full time to complete my Master’s in Business Administration (MBA).

Upon completion of my MBA, I decided to get a job in retail while I looked for a new corporate job. Luckily, I was hired on at Nordstrom in Calgary. Being the fashion obsessed gal that I am, Nordstrom was the perfect fit for me! [Read more…]

Styling the Summer Jumpsuit

Summer is definitely my favorite season. I try to soak in every sun-filled moment, but it’s such a crazy busy time in our house, packed with celebrations and vacations. Thus far I have attended a family reunion in Saskatchewan and a bachelorette party in the Niagara region. We also have a few weddings and mini vacations planned. There are only a handful of weekends where we will actually be home over the summer months. I’m sure many of you can relate! 🙂

At the beginning of every summer I’m always looking to add a few dressy pieces to my wardrobe to ensure I’m ready to attend weddings and any other celebrations. Typically these pieces include dresses or skirts, but this year I’ve actually fallen in love with the jumpsuit! [Read more…]

At-Home Upper Body Workout

I quite enjoy working out in a gym. It’s my time to mentally check out from the stresses of the day and just focus on one task at hand… challenging myself with a butt kicking workout.

However, there are times when it’s next to impossible to actually get to a gym. I aim to workout 4-5 times per week and I don’t like to miss it, so when getting to the gym isn’t an option I turn to at-home workouts that are both challenging and require minimal equipment. [Read more…]

The Perfect Skirt for Every Body Type

When it comes to skirts I definitely have two favorites: 1) the pencil skirt and 2) the pleated midi skirt. Even though the pencil skirt is fitted and the midi skirt is loose and flowing, I always feel equally sexy when I wear both styles.

I’ve had many ladies share with me that they just aren’t “skirt people.” They then proceed to list off the various body parts that they dislike and feel that skirts just accentuate these areas. [Read more…]

Healthy Snacks

I’m definitely a snacker! The thought of eating only 3 square meals per day slightly horrifies me. LOL!

I tend to eat about 5 meals daily and this keeps me completely satisfied.

To prevent snacking from turning into mindless eating, I try to stick to these few guidelines:

    • Keep the fridge and pantry stocked with healthy ingredients. This ensures I can quickly throw together a healthy snack and not reach for a bag of chips (Side note: If I reach for that bag of chips I will definitely eat the entire thing. It’s happened. Many times. I’m the chip monster!)
    • Watch portion sizes. As I’ve mentioned before, I track the amount of protein, carbs and fats I eat in a day. This guarantees that I’m eating a balanced diet and helps me manage my portion sizes at each meal.
    • Each snack made up of Carbohydrates, Fats & Protein. When my snacks tick off all 3 of these macro-nutrients it keeps me feeling fuller longer. However, it’s not essential. It can be difficult to ensure your sweet snacks, in particular, have protein. As long as each snack hits two of these macros I can make up the third in another meal.

Work Wear: Fashion Meets Function

Whether we like it or not, how we dress affects not only how we are perceived by others but also how we feel about ourselves. That’s why in business, it’s so important to project the right image through your fashion.

Personally, when I take that extra bit of time in the morning to invest in myself it sets me up for success for the rest of the day. When we feel good about the image we are projecting to the world we naturally have more confidence. And confidence is vital for the business world.

Many people think that dressing professionally equals a boring and uncomfortable wardrobe. Well, I’m here to refute this misconception! [Read more…]

Salmon, Potato & Asparagus Salad

Making a good salad is a bit of an art! Honestly, it took me years of practice to graduate from salads that are simply chunks of iceberg lettuce with a few sad pieces of cucumber and tomato drenched in dressing.

Because I’m an active person, with a large appetite, salads must be filling to be considered a meal. To achieve this I strive to use a variety of vegetables with the addition of protein, carbohydrates and healthy fats. This salad nails all of that criteria! [Read more…]
